“I need to go over some of the KPI items we would like to pull into BIO. Your team is amazing and with your blue sky thinking, its fun to come up with new solutions and be able to work through them as a partnership. I would recommend you guys to anyone”.

Tableau Software began as an R&D project inside Stanford University’s Department of Computer Science in 1997. Professor Pat Hanrahan was contacted by the US Department of Defense with a project to make data more comprehensible to military analysts. His Ph.D. student Chris Stolte specialized in databases. Together, they combined a structured query language for databases with a descriptive language for rendering graphics and invented a database visualization language called VizQL (Visual Query Language). Tableau was spun out of Stanford in 2003 with VizQL as the foundation of a software application called Tableau Desktop. The product interacts with relational databases, cubes and spreadsheets and then auto-generates visualizations including reports, tables, charts and graphs.
